PSA: THE SPAMBOTS ARE GETTING WAY SMARTER

The spambots plaguing Tumblr are no longer icon-less Tumblrs with gibberish usernames like qweiou2390. They more or less look like actual Tumblrs now, at least until you click on them;

If you visit one of their Tumblrs and are suddenly logged out and/or getting the login screen, this is fake and you are still logged in. They just hope you won’t notice that and fill in your details, after which they’ll use them to log in to your Tumblr and hijack it. In other words, if you fill in your details on a fake log in screen or something and you don’t change your password quickly enough after that you might lose your Tumblr forever. The actual log in screen for Tumblr will always have the url http://www.tumblr.com/login, never something like http://tumblrlogin.com.

I’ve also heard of them using a screen that asks you to re-authenticate your details, for instance to ‘view possibly adult content’. Tumblr will never ask you to re-authenticate or verify your details, so these are all fake too.

The only thing you can do about this is block the spambot followers and then report them for spam, while waiting for Tumblr to finally fix their shit.

One last thing: after a while or after blocking them they might disappear again from your follower list, but that won’t affect your follower count. The count will still display the same number of followers. That’s probably a glitch in the matrix Tumblr.
